A mother is too poor to help her son

February 26, 2015

Can anyone sponsor this woman? She currently lives in a slum, though we are trying to find her a better place to live. Her son suffered from typhoid as a child and consequently is now paralysed; he cannot walk or stand. If she was not so poor she could have afforded treatment for him so that he didn’t become paralysed. It must have been horrific for her to watch him suffer.

Two new ladies who need our help

June 7, 2013

Both these ladies need sponsors for £15 per month.

Tragically Bishnu Maya’s husband and daughter died in a gas explosion in their room, she is on her own now.

Maya’s husband disappeared when her daughter was just two years old and she has struggled to look after them both since then. Her daughter is now 14 years old.

Meet Janaki

May 14, 2013

This lady, Janaki, has been referred to WWR in Nepal. She is 60 years old, has been a widow for a long while and works selling vegetables on the street. She can not afford to pay her room rent so WWR will be supporting her; please let us know if you would like to sponsor her for £15 per month. Thank you.

Introducing Kanchhi Maya

Introducing Kanchhi Maya

This is Kanchhi Maya; she is 31 years old and has a five year old son. Her husband disappeared a few years ago and has not been heard of since. Her in-laws treat her very badly and she works as a labourer on construction sites even though she suffers from asthma. We require a sponsor for her, it costs just £15 and will be sufficient to pay her rent as well as cover treatment for her asthma. Please contact us if you can help. Thank you.

One of our clever women

Sad news from Nepal

July 8, 2009

Sadly Hari, one of the people we support in Nepal, has died today after a short stay in hospital.  Our prayers are for his wife Gyanu whom he leaves behind.

Hari and Gyanu were the only ‘old couple’ we supported – they had no children of their own and their nephew had cheated them of their life savings.

They are pictured together here.

Women Without Roofs will of course continue to provide support to his wife.

49 Actions!

January 29, 2009

Last week the trustees of WWR met together in the stunning Devon town of Lynton for 24 hours.  As a result of the meeting they have a combined total of 49 actions to achieve and will be very busy for the next while!

Some of the main points you might be interested in are:

Marilyn will be taking over organising pashmina orders – her e-mail address is pashmina@wwr-nepal.org.

Renee will (hopefully) be visiting Nepal during February and March and will be assessing each of the women we support and ensuring they have a basic standard of living.  She will be checking to see that they at least own the following items:

Bed

Salt & Rice

Jacket

Blanket

Large Water Container

Hat

Pillow

Stool

Gloves

Metal Crockery inc Beaker

Cupboard/Food Store

School Uniform for children

Saucepan/Stir fry pot

Shoes

Shawl

Pressure Cooker

Socks

Stove & Gas

Serving Spoon

Thermals

If you sponsor one of the women and would like to know what their needs are and what we will be buying for them, then please let us know.

Our income has crossed the £5,000/annum threshold and consequently we will be fully registering with the Charity Commission (at the moment we are registered with HMRC only for tax purposes).

Once Renee returns from Nepal we will be putting together a DVD to demonstrate the work we do and the plight of the women we support – we will let you know when it is completed so you can see it.

If you’d like to know what the other 45 action points are then get in contact and we’d be happy to send you a copy of the minutes…..!
